Difference between Acrylic & Gel

It's important to understand the difference between gel and acrylics, I cannot tell you how many times I’ve come across a client asking for gel, when she really meant acrylic. Let’s start with the differences;

GEL

  • has a jelly consistency that contours to the nail bed

  • cures in LED/UV light often resulting in feeling a heat spike

  • glossy finish

  • more natural looking

  • less lifting due to the “contouring” to the nail bed

  • does not soak off in acetone can only be removed by filing off completely

  • no odour

ACRYLIC

  • a liquid mixed with powder

  • air dries

  • dull finish

  • harder than gel

  • lifts easier due to being “harder” (less contouring to the nail)

  • can be soaked off in acetone to remove

  • monomer odour

  • if not done correctly can look very thick and bulky

People will always ask which is better? Honestly, I wouldn’t say one is better than the other it all depends on the nail bed. Just stick with the one that lasts longer, and lifts less! If you have oilier, weaker flimsy nails try acrylic. If you’re a picker try acrylic (it’s harder therefore tougher to pick off) If you have brittle nails, have normal to fairly strong nails and you’re just looking to avoid breakage, use gel! If you’re a person who does not plan to take your nail enhancements off then try gel! One won’t save your nails more than the other, as long as you find the right nail technician your nails will stay healthy! I hope this helped, and if you have any questions just email or message us on any social platform!

Love always,
